DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 26. Tajikistan produced 419,724 tons of onions from January through July 2025, which is a 34 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Data obtained by Trend from the country's Statistical Agency shows that the largest share of production came from Khatlon region with 308,233 tons, followed by Sughd region with 54,315 tons and the regions of republican subordination (RRS) with 57,136 tons. In Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region, onion output amounted to 39 tons.
Although onion production fell sharply, Tajikistan’s overall agricultural output continued to grow. Gross agricultural production reached 32.26 billion somoni ($3.4 billion) from January through July 2025, a 5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Crop production accounted for 21.23 billion somoni ($2.24 billion), up by 1.9 percent, while livestock output totaled 11.03 billion somoni ($1.16 billion), reflecting an 11.4 percent rise year-on-year.
During the reporting period, household farms contributed 46.8 percent of the total output, dehkan (peasant) farms accounted for 38.8 percent, and public farms made up 14.4 percent.
