Iran has inaugurated 12 electronic and electro-optical projects aimed at expanding defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Press TV reported with refrence to Fars news agency.

The projects were unveiled on Thursday by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as part of the country's plan to shore up its defense capabilities.

The projects include multi-purpose monitors for fighter jets and helicopters equipped with new capabilities, mobile mapping systems for fighter jets, smart long-range electro-optical systems for observance and monitoring, and shoulder-launched anti-aircraft weapons.

Vahidi pointed out that the electro-optical systems enable Iran to observe, detect and intercept aerial objects without being noticed and therefore can surprise any attacker.

The projects were unveiled on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the liberation of the Iranian city of Khorramshahr from Iraq.

Iran recaptured the city from Iraq on May 24, 1982 during Iran-Iraq war. The liberation is celebrated in Iran on its anniversary.
