Iran's Semnan province notes surge in non-oil exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. Non-oil exports from Semnan Province in northern Iran experienced a significant increase, rising by 40 percent in value and 33 percent in weight during the 5 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024), compared to the same period last year (from March 21 to August 23, 2023), the director general of Iran's Semnan Province Customs Administration Mourtaza Hajiannejad told media, Trend reports.

Hajiannejad stated that Semnan Province exported non-oil products worth approximately $72.5 million, totaling 167,000 tons during the five-month period. The primary exported items included zinc ingots, rubber containers, sodium carbonate, wire, water coolers, and cleaning agents.

“Over these five months, products from Semnan were exported to 36 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Türkiye, Russia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, India, Uzbekistan, Georgia, France, Germany, and Bulgaria,” he noted.

Over the same five-month period, the province imported goods valued at around $87.6 million, totaling 15,800 tons. This represents a 10 percent increase in value and a 16 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year. The imports primarily consisted of equipment, spare parts, and raw materials from 22 countries, including Türkiye, China, Germany, South Korea, the UAE, India, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Additionally, Iran as a whole exported non-oil products worth $21.9 billion, totaling 60.5 million tons in the first five months. This reflects a 10 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year. Conversely, Iran imported non-oil products worth $26.3 billion and totaling 15.7 million tons during the same period, marking a 5.53 percent increase in value and a 7.93 percent increase in weight year-over-year.
