BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. The production of iron ore concentrate by 14 major Iranian companies increased by 5 percent in the 6 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) compared to the same month of last year (from March 21 through September 22, 2023), the statement of the Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation organization said, Trend reports.
According to the information, 14 major companies in Iran produced about 24.7 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the six months. In the same period last year, the production of large companies was 23.4 million tons.
The information shows that Sangan Mining Company produced 1.8 million tons, Gohar-Zamin Company about 1.24 million tons, Middle East Mines and Mining Development Company (MIDHCO) 999,000 tons, Gol-Gohar Company 925,000 tons, Chadormalu Company 604,000 tons, and Jalalabad Company produced 348,000 tons of iron ore concentrate.
The data shows that Gol-Gohar Company produced 6.35 million tons, Chadormalu Company about 4.42 million tons, Gohar-Zamin Company 4 million tons, Sangan Mining Company 2.16 million tons, and Middle East Mines and Mining Development Company (MIDHCO) 2.12 million tons of iron ore concentrate.
The information noted that 1.73 million tons from Central Iron Ore Company, 1.44 million tons from Opal Parsian Sangan Company, 1.32 million tons from Sanabad Mine and Industrial Development Company, 832,000 tons from Sabanour Company, and Jalalabad Company extracted 250,000 tons of iron ore concentrate.
Furthermore, the information indicates that large mining enterprises produced 13.4 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the six months. This is 1 percent more than the same period last year, when a total of 13.3 million tons of iron ore concentrate was produced.
To note, Iran can produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year, which is used in steel production. The potential for steel production in Iran is about 40 million tons per year.
