Baku, Azerbaijan, July 2
By Fatih Karimov – Trend:
Construction of the Forouzan offshore oilfield’s platform is complete by 32 percent, the Iranian oil ministry’s SHANA news agency reported July 2.
The construction of the 7,000-ton platform is expected to be complete by 60 percent by March 2017.
The platform, construction of which started in South Korea, was delivered to Iran last March at 25 percent of completeness.
The Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) undertook the platform’s construction after it was delivered to the country.
Once the platform is installed, the oilfield’s crude output will double from the current volume of 38,000 to some 80,000 barrels per day.
The Forouzan Oilfield, shared with Saudi Arabia, is located 100 kilometers southwest of the Kharg Island. The field was discovered in 1966 with estimated in-place reserves of 2.309 billion barrels of crude.
Forouzan is known as Marjan in Saudi Arabia.
Iran plans to increase its output capacity from the oilfield to 400,000 barrels per day.
