Iran exported 146,486 tons of apples in the first five months of the current Iranian fiscal years (started March), hitting a record high compared to the same period last year, according to figures by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.
146,486 tons of fresh and dried apples worth over $68 million were exported over five month to August 22, the figures showed, ISNA reported on September 30.
During the same period last year, Iran exported 30,947 tons of apples worth $8.4 million.
This year’s export indicated an eightfold increase, the figures showed.
The report added the apples were shipped to 24 countries, with Russia and Afghanistan importing $20 and $17 million worth of the fruits, respectively.
The total amount of annual apple production in Iran is around 3.7 million tons, about one-fifth of which is exported, mainly to Iraq, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, the UAE, India, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Tajikistan and Russia.
