In recent weeks, the weight of broiler chickens has dropped in Iran due to existing problems in ensuring the poultry forage, said Mohammad Youssefi, chief of Iranian Broiler Chicken Association, ISNA reported.
He said that because of hard situation of truck drivers that has been observed since the middle of September, as well as their refusal to work, caused difficulties for ensuring the forage for broiler chickens.
Some poultry breeders may even lose their chickens due to the lack of forage, he noted.
In some cases, the poultry breeders are obliged to hand over chickens to slaughterhouses in 30 days, however, chickens are usually sent to slaughterhouses after 45 days, he added.
“Presently, with the cooperation of Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, chicken forage is sent from the Iranian border to the provinces by rail,” he said. “The situation has improved a little. However, the problem of shortage of the chicken forage still exists.
