Russia has resolutely denounced the terrorist attacks in Baghdad and voiced support for the Iraqi government's efforts to eradicate terrorism, said a spokesman for Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday, Xinhua reported.
"Moscow resolutely denounces this sanguinary crimes, whose masterminds and perpetrators must get the punishment they deserve," the Itar-Tass news agency quoted Andrei Nesterenko as saying.
Twin car bombs exploded near three government buildings Sunday in central Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, killing and injuring hundreds of people in one of the worst terrorist attacks in more than two years.
"We state our firm support to the Iraqi government's efforts toward eradicating terrorism, restoring order and normal life in the country on the basis of reaching national accord, and strengthening Iraq's sovereignty," said the diplomat.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also condemned, in a statement on Monday, the terrorist attacks in Baghdad, and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims.
According to latest reports, the death toll from the two explosions has risen to 132 with more than 500 people injured.
