A book by German writer and publicist Johannes Raun on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict reflects the truth of the situation, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Faig Bagirov told Trend in a telephone conversation from Cairo on Jan. 16.

Earlier, Armenian media sources accused the Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt of assisting to publish a book containing false information about the conflict.

Raun's book, "The Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. A Brief Historical Outline," has been translated into Arabic and published in Egypt with the help of the embassy.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

"If the Armenians have any claims against Johannes Raun's book, then they should address the writer and not the embassy," Bagirov said.

The embassy translated and published the book only after establishing its veracity, he said. The book has been delivered to numerous educational institutions in Egypt.

The book was first published in Germany in 2007 and later translated into English and Arabic.

The book cites incidents of terrorism committed by the Armenian Dashnaktsutyun party against other nationalities in Azerbaijan since the the 20th Century.
