Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 February / corr. Trend G. Jabiyev/ The Press Council of Azerbaijan will appeal to the leaders of the political parties, in order to determine the status of printed matters propagandizing the political organizations, Aflatun Amashov, the chairman of the Press Council, said to Trend on 6 February.
About 3,000 printed matters were registered in Azerbaijan. Half of the newspapers are those of the political parties.
Amashov said that the papers of the parties should be either pure party papers or break off all links with the political organizations.
"Unfortunately, some of the party papers consider themselves to be socio-political and independent publications. We want the party papers to be pure party papers and publish materials connected only with the activities of the organization. If they want to function as socio-political papers, the heads of those political organizations should give up these publications," Amashov said.
According to Amashov, the papers of the political parties can not gain the support of the government -meant for the independent mass media.
The members of the Press Council are developing the conception of the governmental support for the mass media together with the Presidential Administration. The President is expected to approve the conception in the near future.
