Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 July / Trend corr E.Babayev/ Meeting between head of public forum In The Name of Azerbaijan, independent presidential contender Eldar Namazov and Azerbaijan's ex-speaker currently residing in the United States, leader of the Open Society Party Rasul Guliyev did not take place.
"I had a telephone talk with Rasul Guliyev. We made discussions. When I was in Washington, Guliyev was out of New-York," Namazov said to Trend on 16 July, commenting on results of his visit to United States which ended on 15 July.
Right-wing Open Society Party was founded in April 2007 in result of the split of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party. Party's leader Rasul Guliyev is an emigrant to the United States. Protesting against ADP's new course intended to establish a dialogue with authorities, Guliyev and his supporters separated from the party and established their own Open Society Party.
Namazov commented on Guliyev's support for him at the elections. "From our telephonic talks I understood that his wish to return to Azerbaijan and to participate in the elections still retains force. He is doing his utmost for this purpose. Should Rasul Guliyev fail to return, he will divulge his position on elections," he said.
Namazov stressed that during his 5-day visit to the United States he had meeting at the State Department, Congress, NGOs and met with representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora.
