Buildings of  Khrushchev, Stalin design in Baku to be Knocked Down Gradually: Azerbaijan’s emergency situation minister

Azerbaijan, Lankaran, Dec. 13/ Trend corr P. Aliyeva/ Azerbaijan's Emergency Situations Minister says buildings of Khrushchev, Stalin design in Baku may be knocked down gradually.

"This type of buildings will not be knocked down in large numbers," Kamaladdin Heydarov, minister of emergency situations, said to reporters.

In early Dec, chief of State Real Estate Register Service Arif Garashov said that the blocs of flats built at late 19th and early 20th century are knocked down and new ones are built. Despite these buildings has historical significance, they are not fit for use.

"The residents will be offered compensation or a new flat. Term of use of these building has expired. In future these buildings will be knocked down stage-by-stage and new ones will be built. Old buildings are knocked down and replaced with new ones at fast pace. Buildings of Khrushchev, Stalin design in the capital city will be knocked down stage-by-stage," Garashov added.

Reports on knock down of buildings of Khrushchev and Stalin design are not TRUE, Minister said.

"At present studies are conducted. Buildings of Khrushchev and other designs were built for a time being. The Cabinet of Ministers and other relevant ministries have worked out a mechanism, because buildings of Khrushchev design must be knocked down and multistoried buildings must be constructed instead of them. Or buildings will not be constructed and residents will move to other buildings," the Minister said.

Heydarov said the Ministry has not raised an issue of knocking down buildings in large numbers.
