Georgian patriarch's health is stable: minister

Georgian Patriarch Iliya II is in good health, Georgian Labor, Health and Social Protection Minister Alexander Kvitashvili said after visiting the Fridon Todua Clinical Medicine Institute on Jan. 28.

"I talked to the head of the clinic and he said the patriarch can walk and talk," Kvitashvili said.

The patriarch was rushed to the clinic with a temperature last night.

The doctors think that his health deteriorated due to a viral infection.

"The doctors will make a diagnosis today [Jan. 28]. The patriarch is currently undergoing all the necessary procedures," Kvitashvili said.

The patriarch was scheduled to visit Moscow on Jan. 30 to participate in the inauguration of the Russian Patriarch Cyril on Feb. 1.
