The Azerbaijani governing party will take part in the municipal elections with a new platform.
"We prefer to apply innovation to all elections as for the world experience," the governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary and Member of Parliament Siyavush Novruzov told Trend on April 10.
The Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for autumn in 2009. Earlier, the municipal elections were held in 1999 and 2004.
Novruzov said they have already begun to develop a new platform. "After referendum, one of our main tasks is preparation for the municipal elections," he said.
The parliamentarian said the new platform will comprise all tactic and strategic issues to determine candidates for the elections. "The platform will be prepared within a short period of time. Every day we will specify our schedule," Novruzov said.
The NAP was established by Nakhchivan Parliamentary Speaker Heydar Aliyev in 1992.
President Ilham Aliyev is the party's chairman. The party has ruled the country for 16 years.
