Turkmen and Iranian Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met in Tehran yesterday. They confirmed the commitment of the two countries to the course of a long-term full partnership, the Turkmen government said.
The Turkmen president paid an official visit to Iran at the invitation of the Iranian side to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of Novruz holiday.
The interlocutors highlighted the significant potential of cooperation and possibilities for its implementation in various spheres. The implementation of the agreements and the prospects for further cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
Both sides also exchanged views on a number of urgent issues of regional and international policy having mutual interest.
Two countries actively cooperate in the energy sphere. So, an additional gas transmission line was commissioned through Dovletabat-Sarahs-Hangeran about a year ago. It should provide an annual supply of 20 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to the nearby provinces of Iran. The negotiations are underway to expand the ties in Turkmen electricity supplies. Iran acts not only as a buyer, but also provides transit of this type of energy to Turkey.
Such projects as railway mainline Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashad, uniting the countries of the Central Asia and Europe, gas pipelines Korpedzhe-Gurtguyy and Artyk-Lutfabat, fiber-optic communication line "TransAsia-Europe" into a single network can be stressed.
Iranian companies also build elevators for grain storage, terminals for storage and export of liquefied natural gas.
