Azerbaijan will apply to host the 2020 Olympic Games in Baku.
"It is still early to start preparation activities. The name of the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games will be announced in Copenhagen in September 2009. Azerbaijan will apply to host the 2020 games," Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov told journalists on Jan. 30.
Baku lost the chance to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
Azerbaijan planned to build a sport city in the Bibi Eybat oil fields.
The 2008 Olympic Games were held in Beijing. The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London.
The ministry will begin preparation activities when the Baku City Administration makes its final decision.
