BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. The design phase for the Alat-Astara railway is set to begin in 2025, a leading specialist from the Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan Railways, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, told Trend.
In a statement to the agency, Hajiyev noted that a number of works were completed on the project in 2024.
“The conceptual design for the power supply, communication, and signaling systems along the Alat-Astara railway line has been completed. Additionally, construction and installation work on the bridge at the 131-kilometer mark of the Gasimly-Liman section has been finalized. Currently, test operations are being conducted. Relevant work will continue in 2025,” Hajiyev added.
It is worth noting that, as part of the action plan approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, for international transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan, the reconstruction of the Alat-Osmanli-Astara railway is planned for 2024-2026. Also, in 2026, a major overhaul of traction tracks and switchgear on the third section of the Bilajari station sorting yard is expected.
