ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 8. A significant wind power plant project is being implemented in the Khromtau district of the Aktobe region as part of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to develop alternative energy in Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Akimat (local government) of Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region.

During a working visit to the district, Akim (the governor) of the Aktobe region, Askat Shakharov, reviewed the progress of the wind power plant’s construction and assessed the benefits of using renewable energy sources for the region.

The project is valued at 74.2 billion tenge ($148.4 million), with an installed capacity of 150 MW. Full completion of the construction is planned for this year. Currently, two wind turbines with a total capacity of 12.5 MW have been put into operation. These turbines are among the most powerful in Kazakhstan. The first electricity generated has already been supplied to the 35 kV power grid of the Donskoy Mining and Processing Plant.

Once the wind power plant reaches full capacity, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by over 500,000 tons per year. Additionally, two more wind power plant projects, with a combined value of 115 billion tenge ($230 million), are being implemented in the Khromtau district.

The regional governor emphasized that the project is an important step toward ensuring the region’s energy stability and promoting a transition to more environmentally friendly energy sources. He noted that wind energy will not only help reduce the carbon footprint but also create new jobs and strengthen the region’s economy, contributing to the development of Kazakhstan’s "green" energy sector.

To note, in 2024, the volume of attracted investments in the district reached 243 billion tenge ($486 million), accounting for 27 percent of the total investment in the region.
