ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 28. A factory from one of the world’s leaders in the sugar industry, Al Khaleej Sugar from the United Arab Emirates, may soon be established in the Almaty region of Kazakhtsan, Trend reports.
Negotiations on the project took place during a meeting between the Akim (Governor) of the region, Marat Sultangaziev, and the company's Managing Director, Sheikh Jamal Al Ghurair.
"During the meeting, we discussed the location for the future factory, areas for sugar beet cultivation, and water supply issues. A plot of land near the city of Konayev was recognized as the most promising due to its logistical advantages," said the press service of the Akimat (Administration) of Almaty region.
However, the issue of water supply remains unresolved:
alternative sources for irrigating fields are being considered.
“Almaty region has high agricultural potential. To move forward, we
need modern technologies and strong partners. Today’s meeting is an
important step for the region’s economy,” emphasized
Sultangaziev.
Moreover, the parties agreed to involve professional consultants
for a detailed analysis of the region’s hydrological resources.
This will help develop optimal solutions for water supply and
ensure the successful implementation of the investment project.
“It is critical for us that the cultivation areas are reliably
provided with water. The project requires serious preparation, and
we will involve the best consultants in the field of hydrology,”
noted Al Ghurair.
Investors are also considering the construction of wind power
plants to fully supply the enterprise with its own energy.
“We want to create a completely autonomous enterprise using
renewable energy sources. This will help minimize the environmental
impact,” added Al Ghurair.
Al Khaleej Sugar is the world’s largest autonomous sugar refinery, controlling about 3 percent of the global refined sugar market. Sheikh Al Ghurair has a successful track record in various industries, from sugar to construction and real estate.
