BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6. Global oil consumption growth is expected to remain below pre-pandemic trends, with more modest increases forecast for the next two years, according to the latest outlook from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), Trend reports.
The EIA projects global liquid fuels consumption to rise by 1.0 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2025 and 0.9 million b/d in 2026, marking reductions of 0.4 million b/d and 0.1 million b/d, respectively, compared to earlier projections made in January.
The growth in consumption is largely driven by rising demand in Asia, particularly in India and China.
India’s liquid fuels consumption is expected to increase by 0.2 million b/d in 2025 and 0.3 million b/d in 2026, supported by growing transportation fuel needs. China is projected to see a more gradual rise, with an increase of 0.2 million b/d in both years.
