German entrepreneurs show interest in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani-German business-forum held in Baku on March 31 reflected interest of the Federal Republic of Germany's entrepreneurs towards Azerbaijan with its economic stability and firm economic development, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development said.

The forum was held within the delegation's visit headed by Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology's representative Margit Steffel. The forum has special importance to extend business relations between entrepreneurs of both countries.

"Actions on legislative base improvement, state-run support of entrepreneurship strengthening and business relations extension led to increase of investments in Azerbaijani economy," the message said.

Roughly $61.7 billion was invested to Azerbaijani economy from all sources over 1993-2008. Approximately $36.9 billion hit foreign investments but $24.8 billion - domestic ones. Roughly $11.2 billion was invested to Azerbaijani economy in 2008. Azerbaijan takes the first place on volume of foreign investments per capita among CIS countries and Eastern Europe. Domestic investments rather exceeded foreign ones within the last two years. 

The business-forum's organizers were Azerbaijani Export and Investment Promotion Foundation under the Ministry of Economic Development and Commit German company.

Roughly 20 representatives of German companies operating in power engineering, machine-building, trade, transport, chemical and food industries participated in Azerbaijani-German business-forum.

Several meetings between Azerbaijani and German entrepreneurs have been planned within the forum to discuss expansion of the cooperation.
