The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said that about 9.528 million tons of cargo was transported in the first quarter, using different types of vehicles. This figure is 0.76 percent more than the same period of 2009, the committee said. About 8.111 million tons of cargo fall to export, and 1,416 million tons - to import.
About 82.200 tons were transported by sea, about 773.800 tons by railway, 123,400 tons by road, 86.600 tons by air, and 7.045 million tons by pipelines.
Priority was given sea transport in import operations, through which 141.400 tons of cargo were transported. About 948.200 tons were transported by railway, about 319.200 tons by road and 3,700 tons by air.
About 2.155 million tons of cargo were transported through the territory of Azerbaijan in the first quarter, which is 47.98 percent or 698.700 tons more than in January-March 2009.
