Agricultural production increases 1.4 percent in Azerbaijan

The total agricultural production grew by 1.4 percent, including crop production - by 11.2 percent, livestock - 1 percent in January-April in Azerbaijan, State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported on May 15.

The total amount of agricultural production was 470.8 million manat, an increase of 1.4 percent compared to the same period of last year. The amount of forestry products during the reported period totaled 442, fishery - 50 manat.

As of May 1, spring sowing territory made up 232,200 hectares of land.

Spring sowing of cereals and legumes was carried out in the territory of 34,400 hectares, sugar beet - 7,000, potatoes - 51,500, vegetables - 49,300, melon and watermelon - 17,800, cotton - 9,600, many years grasses - 54,700.

In January-April were produced 220 tons of potatoes and 27,300 tons of vegetables, or 10 percent and 17 percent more than the same period of last year.

During the reported period, Azerbaijan produced 95,4 tons of meat, 460,400 tons of milk, 399.6 million units of chicken eggs. Milk production during the year grew by 4.1 percent, eggs - 1 percent, while meat production declined by 1.5 percent.

The average monthly salary in the agriculture amounted to 132 manat, which is 0.9 percent more than the same period of 2009.
