Azerbaijan's customs system is ahead of the customs services of many countries in the region in terms of its development, said Vitali Mikeladze, head of European Regional Capacity Building Office of the World Customs Organization (WCO) which was opened in Baku on Monday.
"This especially deals with the introduction of the information technologies and new concepts, particularly the use of the "single window", he said.
Another direction where Azerbaijan can share its experiences is its risk management system. It is also necessary to mention the cynological service development of Azerbaijan, said Mikeladze.
According to him, choosing Azerbaijan to open a regional center of the WTO was not accidental, but is the result of activity of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan in international arena.
The Office will focus on the modernization of customs services in the region countries, carry out works to synchronize their activities, take steps to bring their activities into conformity with international standards. Another activity of the Office is to transfer to region countries the tools used by WCO, as well as to organize the exchange of experiences among members.
The Office will also implement educational functions to train staff in the customs sphere and improve their qualifications.
