Iceland, Turkey and countries in the Western Balkans are set to receive almost 1 billion euros (1.3 billion dollars) in pre-EU membership aid, the bloc's executive said Tuesday.
Money will come from the 2011 budget for the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, the European Commission said in a statement, DPA reported.
Turkey is the biggest single recipient of aid, with 233 million euros earmarked for justice reforms, climate change and environmental projects.
Serbia is the second largest, receiving 178.5 million euros.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is to be given 91.2 million; Albania 82 million; Kosovo 63 million; Croatia 39 million; Macedonia 28.9 million; Montenegro 26.5 million; and Iceland 12 million euros.
A further 210 million euros were pledged for programmes across countries and to support international oversight bodies in Bosnia and Kosovo.
