Alstom is interested in modernization and maintenance of the rolling stock of the Tashkent Metro, Bernard Peille, Alstom Managing Director for Western and Central Asia Cluster, told Trend on June 28.
In addition to modernization of metro trains, Uzbekistan needs to update the electric and intercity trains, but it is too early to talk about any arrangement, since the negotiation process is at a very early stage.
“There are no specific agreements with the government of Uzbekistan as of today. A year and a half ago, a delegation of Alstom visited Uzbekistan, but negotiations with the Uzbekistan Railways were fruitless. Currently, we are waiting for announcement of a tender and will be ready to participate in it,” Peille noted.
He added that they are actively working in Uzbekistan and are following trends in the transport sector of the republic.
“The number one priority of the company in the market of Uzbekistan is delivery of electric locomotives. Uzbekistan needs new electric freight locomotives, as the country participates in a transport corridor,” Peille concluded.
On June 27, Alstom presented its first electric locomotive Prima T8 AZ7A for the Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). The presentation of the locomotive was held at the Electric Locomotive Plant (EKZ), located in the territory of the Astana Special Economic Zone in Kazakhstan.
Alstom is a major French engineering company, one of the world leaders in production of power equipment and railway transport.
In September 2017, it was announced that Alstom will become the core of the new Siemens-Alstom concern, which will also include German Siemens and Siemens Mobility. The German company will get just over 50 percent of the shares.
