Tehran, Iran, Dec.5
Trend:
Iran seeks to boost foreign investment in its transport system and rail roads, specially by attracting China, so it could establish logistical hubs to connect Asia to Europe.
"China has invested $1.4 billion in railway road route between Asia and Europe, if we do not create logistic hubs we would stay behind this trend," Deputy Minister of Transportation and Metropolitan Development Shahram Adamnejad told ILNA, Trend reported.
"Our plan is to expand logistics in the next 20 years , that would be influenced immensely by the Chinese investment," he said.
"The regional transportation system cost $500 billion, while Iran's share in this should be more than the 1.5 percent," he added.
Adamnejad also noted the problems in the logistics sector, that include infrastructure and operation.
"In this area there is hardly an integration , due to the division of power, we hope to use the private sector to improve this issue," he said.
"Regarding logistics, there are three approaches, first cutting the costs, second is responsibility in logistics industry and the speedy pace in operating the plans. If we succeed the situation would improve," Adamnejad said.
"Currently 22 percent of cargos arrive at bases in the south of Tehran and then take off to the to central regions of the country. This means the process is not operating well and it takes an extra way to go, if the process works out precisely, it would affect the country's economy and prices of goods," he added.
"To boost the operations in logistics, we would introduce five strategies, modernizing networks and infrastructures, integration of the operation, information systems and documentation of cargo transport, facilitating logistic companies and using new tools of combining logistic centers and hybrid terminals," he said.
