Uzbek Ministry of Health purchased 200 ultrasound machines for prenatal screening from General Electric for multidisciplinary central polyclinics of city and regional medical associations, Trend reports with reference to the press service of Ministry of Health.
The ministry calculated that the multidisciplinary clinics will now be able to cover with screening annually an average of 700,000 pregnant women (previously – 280,000-350,000).
"If earlier pregnant women had to travel to the capital or regional centers for the examination, today there is no such need. Most importantly, the possibility of early detection of congenital abnormalities of the fetus at up to 14 weeks and preventing the birth of children with defects leading to death appeared, ” Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov said.
Ultrasound scanners were procured as part of the program for the early detection of congenital and hereditary diseases in children for 2018–2022, approved by the president in December 2017.
