One of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s policy is the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were approved in September 2015 at the UN summit, Trend reports referring to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
Turkmenistan was one of the first countries which adopted all 17 SDGs at the national level in September 2016, the corresponding objectives and indicators for their implementation for the next 15 years.
SDGs are implemented in the country in three spheres, based on economic, social and environmental aspects.
Thus, 148 tasks were recommended for adoption in Turkmenistan following the discussions with UN agencies. So, 121 of 148 tasks were adopted without changes, 27 tasks were adapted taking into account the country’s national peculiarities. Meanwhile, 175 indicators have been adopted.
Turkmenistan has adopted a national program to transform the social and living conditions of the population in villages, towns, districts for the period up to 2020.
During the implementation of this program, investments worth $1.5-2 billion were used annually.
The policy towards diversification of economic sectors and forms of ownership, further strengthening of the country's industrial power, ensuring sustainable economic growth, as well as achievement of the world standards in intellectual development and living conditions of the population, consistent increasing its employment, as well as social and living standards are among the main goals.
