By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia has real potential for production of quality products, therefore it is important to develop quality labels and standards, said Dominik Papenheim, Programme Officer at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

He made this remark at a meeting with the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Georgi Khanishvili during the presentation of the research “Georgian Certification and Quality Standards”.

The aim of the research was to study the quality standards of Georgian food and agriculture.

“This meeting with representatives from the public and private sectors is very important. As you know, the state has a vision of strengthening the role of associations in agricultural production. We are actively working to ensure this component is implemented as part of the European Neighborhood Policy for rural development. It is important to understand that growing demand means improving the quality of our products. I would like to thank the EU for its financial support,” Khanishvili said.

The research focuses on the need to raise consumer awareness of standards and quality labels. It has been shown that for most consumers, product quality is important.

The event was held under the auspices of the EU-funded Food and agricultural initiative in support of small and medium enterprises, led by the International Institute for Economic Research of Georgia, the Export Development Association, the Civil Development Agency and the Georgian Farmers Association.
