The Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) plans to increase the container capacity of Iran's commercial ports from 7.7 million TEUs to 8 million TEUs in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), said Chairman of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
According to Rastad, thus, the capacity of Iran's commercial ports will increase from 246 million tons to 264 million tons.
Rastad added that in this direction, a grain warehouse is being built in Chabahar port.
The official said that 11 contracts were signed with the private sector for the construction of various port terminals in connection with the storage of petroleum products and other products in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
The investments of the private sector amounted to 55.2 trillion rials (about $1.31 billion).
Rastad said that the total value of private sector investment in Iranian ports was 158 trillion rials (about $3.7 billion) by the end of the last Iranian year. The largest investment was made into the port of Imam Khomeini, amounting to 30 trillion rials (about $716 million).
