Hazelnut harvest has already started in Georgian Samegrelo region, said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, Trend reports via Georgian media.
He made the remark during the event “Hazelnut 2020” in Zugdidi city, Samegrelo region.
"The forecasted figure is 50,000 tons. Its export should bring about $100 million to the region,” said Gakharia.
According to him, hazelnut growing is paramount both for Samegrelo and for the Georgian economy in general.
“Although this year was difficult and we had many restrictions economically, work in the agricultural sector, as well as in infrastructure, has not stopped. Compared to the period after 2016, when Brown marmorated stink bug hit Samegrelo, of course, we have obvious progress,” stressed Gakharia.
