Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / Gubad Ibadoglu, the Economic Research Centre's head, stated on 16 August that temporary price freeze on bread will not prevent an eventual increase in price. The price of bread in the country will increase by 30-50% by the end of 2007.
The average price for a loaf of bread increased from AZN 0.2 to 0.3 and its weight decreased from 0.5kg to 0.35gram. Commenting on the decision of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers to temporarily ban VAT on imported grain to the country, the expert said that this would not help to regulate the price of bread.
