Azersun Holding's Middle East Petrol plans to increase oil-cargo transit via Azerbaijan to 8.5 million tons in 2009 compared to 7.7 million tons last year, Azersun President Abdulbari Goozal said.
"We plan to increase transit by 10 percent in 2009. We have no problems with transit," he said.
Goozal said the global financial crisis has not impacted Azerbaijani oil exports.
Crude oil exports have increased.
Middle East Petrol plans to ship 3.5-4 million tons of oil via Kulevi in 2009. The company will ship the same volume via Batumi, Goozal said.
Middle East Petrol plans to ship Kazakh Tengiz oil via Azerbaijan's oil terminal to the Georgian Black Sea Kulevi Port, he adde.
In 2008, ChevronTexaco began shipping oil from Kazakhstan's Tengiz field via Azerbaijan. The oil is transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and by railway to the Georgian ports of Batumi and Kulevi.
The terminal's transshipment capacity is 10 million tons of oil cargo per year, including two million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel and four million tons of fuel.
