Turanbank JSCB and Eximbank of China signed loan agreements for $ 65.5 million for construction and modernization of Uzbek hydroelectric power plants (HPP), Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
This amount is provided for modernization of the Unitary Enterprise (UP) Cascade of Chirchik HPPs (HPP-10), UP Cascade of Samarkand HPPs (HPP-2B), and UP Cascade of Tashkent HPPs (HPP-1) as well as for the construction of Shaudar small hydroelectric power station on the Dargom canal and the construction of a small hydroelectric power station on Picket 135 + 50 of the Dargom canal in the Samarkand region.
After the construction and modernization of the five hydropower plants, their capacity will reach 76.2 MW and the average annual electricity generation will be 469.9 million kW / h.
In accordance with the decree of the President of Uzbekistan “On the program of measures for the further development of hydropower for 2017–2021” dated May 2, 2017, from 2017, Turanbank JSCB attracted credit lines of Eximbank of China totaling $144.4 million to finance nine projects of construction and modernization of hydropower plants.
Two new small HPPs were commissioned in the country this year. In March 2019, a small HPP with a capacity of 12 MW and an average annual electricity generation of 41.2 million kW / h was put into operation at the Tuyabuguz reservoir.
The small HPP cascade on the large Fergana Water Channel with an average annual electricity generation of 72.8 million kW / h was commissioned in July 2019.
Currently, work is underway to create three new and modernize four small HPPs, which will be commissioned by the end of 2020.
At present, Turonbank JSCB and Uzbekhydroenergo JSC are preparing new projects for the construction and modernization of hydropower plants worth $120.3 million in the Surkhandarya, Syrdarya and Samarkand regions.
