BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. Azerbaijan's green energy production has amounted to over 23.8 billion kilowatts per hour from January through October 2024, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy.
The electricity production in the thermal power plants generated around 20.5 billion kilowatt-hours during the reporting period, hydroelectric power plants contributed 2.6 billion kilowatt-hours, and other sources produced approximately 752 million kilowatt-hours.
Notably, renewable energy saw substantial growth: wind power plants generated 44.8 million kilowatt-hours, solar plants produced 515.3 million kilowatt-hours, and the solid waste incineration plant added 192.2 million kilowatt-hours to the total during the reporting period.
Electricity generation from green energy sources alone increased by 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours compared to the same period last year, reaching 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours.
Azerbaijan’s state-owned Azerenergy OJSC accounted for the majority of the country's electricity production, generating over 21 billion kilowatt hours. This included 18.6 billion kilowatt hours from thermal power plants and 2.3 billion kilowatt hours from hydroelectric plants. The State Energy Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic produced 411 million kilowatt hours, including contributions from thermal, hydroelectric, and solar power plants.
Additionally, Azerishig OJSC’s wind farms produced 34.2 million kilowatt-hours, while independent power plants contributed 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours.
In terms of cross-border electricity exchange, Azerbaijan exported 1.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity during the reporting period, while imports totaled 150.8 million kilowatt hours.
In October alone, electricity production in the republic reached over 2 billion kilowatt-hours. During this month, electricity exports amounted to 12.02 million kilowatt-hours and imports were recorded at 11.4 million kilowatt-hours.
