BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17.​ Azerbaijan’s total electricity production for the past year reached 28.4 billion kWh in 2024.

Data obtained by Trend from the Ministry of Energy's yearly activities report indicates that the majority of the electricity production came from thermal power plants (TPP), with 24.5 billion kWh generated, while hydropower plants (HPP) produced 3 billion kWh. Other sources contributed 839.7 million kWh, including 50.9 million kWh from gas turbine plants (GTP), 556.3 million kWh from hydroelectric plants, and 232.5 million kWh from bioelectric power stations.

In 2024, the state-owned energy company Azerenergy OJSC produced 25.1 billion kWh (22.3 billion kWh from TPPs and 2.8 billion kWh from HPPs), the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic State Energy Service generated 490.3 million kWh (253.3 million kWh from TPPs, 176.2 million kWh from HPPs, and 60.8 million kWh from solar power stations), while Azerishig OJSC contributed 38.5 million kWh from wind power stations, and independent power stations produced 2.7 billion kWh.
