ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 11. The number of commodity exchanges in Kazakhstan has declined from 22 at the time the agency gained regulatory authority to just three currently operating exchanges, said Chairman of the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition Marat Omarov in his report to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports.
President of Kazakhstan Tokayev listened to a report on the work done to implement the decree "On measures to liberalize the economy."
In the course of the meeting, he was informed that, in order to reduce the state's share in the economy, with the direct participation of the National Privatization Office, a list was prepared including more than 450 enterprises with state participation proposed for transfer to a competitive environment.
As Omarov reported, within the framework of work to develop competition in key commodity markets, exchange activities have been brought into compliance with legislation and modern market trading conditions.
The president of Kazakhstan was also informed about the agency’s work plans for the upcoming period.
Following the meeting, the president gave the chairman of the agency a number of instructions concerning the development of competition in key economic sectors and ongoing investigations conducted by the agency, as well as the protection of the interests of small and medium-sized businesses.
