National Virtual Space Center is planning to draft regulation for using satellite internet technology in the country, said the secretary of Supreme Council of Cyberspace.
"National Virtual Space Center has formed a working group to review the satellite internet services and draft regulations for companies that seek to provide satellite internet in the country," he said Abolhassan Firouzabadi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
"Certain measures must be taken for use of satellite internet, in this regard working groups have been formed and the National Virtual Space Center has considerable capacity over this issue. The National Information Network would be overshadowed by global satellite networks that are mainly Americans therefore we should draft regulation and develop a stable internet network," he said.
He went on to say that in order to prevent interruption in the country's virtual space sovereignty, Iran has considered some measures in the National Virtual Space Center that include boosting the country's internet network.
"Satellites internet could interrupt the National Information Network, therefore the network should provide better services with diversity. The internet network has not developed and Telecommunication Company monopoly network sections that should be change or Iran Telecommunication Company should provide faster service," Firouzabadi added.
"We are negotiating with Telecommunication Company of Iran and Ministry of Information and Communications Technology of Iran to invest in development of internet and they have agreed to invest but we are facing delay in this regard. The development of mobile networks should also be on the agenda to provide diverse and cheaper services," he noted.
