BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Iran suggested setting up a joint shipping company with Azerbaijan, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash told Trend.
He discussed this idea with Rashad Nabiyev, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, in a recent meeting.
Bazrpash also said that the Azerbaijani side welcomed the proposal and would consult with the Azerbaijani shipping companies about it.
“The establishment of a joint shipping company will enable the two countries to use their maritime potential more effectively,”Bazrpash added.
The minister noted that both countries have developed their ports and have the capacity to handle various types of cargo.
According to him, Iran has made port development one of its main priorities for the future.
Reportedly, approximately 112 million tons of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), which is an increase bof 3 percent compared to the same period last year.
