ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 14. Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) has completed the first stage of development of the Arys station, Trend reports.

According to KTZ, completion of the first stage made it possible to increase the station's capacity by 20 percent - from 41 to 57 pairs of trains per day

The Arys station began major refurbishment in December 2023. Four months were spent repairing 12 lines totaling 13.5 kilometers, pouring 10,000 cubic meters of crushed stone ballast, and replacing 16 switches.

As part of the project, 54.5 kilometers of cable were laid, signaling, centralization and blocking equipment, 6 railroad retarders, and a transformer for power supply to the compressor station were installed.

To note, the implementation of several large-scale projects began in the field of railway transport in Kazakhstan in 2023.

In November, government statistics showed the start of building on a 74-km railway route bypassing Almaty and the Darbaza-Makataaral line. The first will reduce commodity delivery time by 24 hours and ease the Almaty railway junction by 40 percent, while the second will increase Central Asia throughput by 10 million tons.

In addition, work on the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line, which will span 272 kilometers, began in December. The realization of this project will enhance freight turnover between Kazakhstan and China by 20 million tons.

In general, over the next 3 years, more than 1,300 km of new railways will be built in the country.
