BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 20. The number of electronic wallets in Kyrgyzstan grew by 17 percent, reaching 3.2 million from January through March 2025, Trend reports.
Per the data disseminated by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan,
there has been a significant uptick in the frequency and aggregate
value of electronic monetary transfers, which have experienced a
year-on-year escalation, culminating in 9.6 million transactions
with a cumulative financial throughput of 16.6 billion soms
(equivalent to $189.8 million) during the inaugural quarter of
2025.
Furthermore, the dynamics surrounding the redemption of digital
currency exhibited exponential growth: transaction volume surged
eightfold, reaching 9 million instances, while the aggregate
monetary flow experienced a threefold escalation, totaling 20.8
billion soms ($237.8 million).
The volume of electronic monetary transactions for goods and
services experienced a significant uptick, with both the
transaction frequency and monetary value exhibiting a twofold
increase, culminating in 19.7 million transactions aggregating to
23.5 billion soms ($268.7 million). In a parallel trend, the
throughput and frequency of operations for augmenting electronic
wallets experienced a twofold increase, culminating in 11.6 million
transactions aggregating to 27.2 billion soms ($311 million).
At the conclusion of Q1 2025, the issuance of electronic currency
was executed by a trio of commercial banking institutions,
bolstered by a sextet of indigenous electronic money settlement
frameworks functioning domestically. This substantial expansion
highlights the evolving significance of digital financial services
within Kyrgyzstan’s economic landscape and indicates a rising
integration of electronic wallets among the populace.
