BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 8. The groundwork for the Papan hydropower plant in Kyrgyzstan is in full swing, Trend reports, citing the country’s Ministry of Energy.
As part of the initial phase, a temporary access road leading to the construction site of the power station has been completed. A portion of specialized construction machinery has already been delivered to the area, marking a significant logistical milestone.
Technical requirements for ensuring a stable temporary electricity supply during the construction period have been finalized. The temporary power supply for the water intake facility has been connected, and an agreement has been signed for the design of a 110 kV transmission line, which will serve as the plant’s main power output line.
Construction work has also begun on the water intake structure, located within the basin of the Papan reservoir. Additionally, land allocation and zoning procedures are in progress in the Toloykon area. This site will host the plant's key infrastructure, including the main building and a 110 kV open switchgear substation.
The Papan hydropower plant is set to be built at the lower tailrace of the Papan reservoir, in the Kara-Suu district of the Osh region. With a planned capacity of 27 megawatts (comprising three hydro units of 9 MW each), the station is projected to generate 113 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The project is being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) between Chakan HPP JSC and the Kyrgyz-Chinese Joint Hydropower Construction Company. Completion and commissioning of the facility are expected in the fourth quarter of 2027.
