DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 19. The volume of electricity production in Tajikistan amounted to approximately 10.4 billion kilowatt-hours from January through June 2024, which is 3.7 percent less than in the same period in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, electricity generation by the country’s hydroelectric power plants reached 9.4 billion kilowatt-hours in the first half of this year, a decrease of nearly 7 percent from 10.1 billion kilowatt-hours in the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, electricity production by thermal power plants totaled 921.1 million kilowatt-hours, a 46.1 percent increase from 631.2 million kilowatt-hours in January–June of last year. Solar power generation increased 4.2 times, from 200,000 kilowatt-hours to 800,000 kilowatt-hours.

Notably, Tajikistan's National Development Strategy until 2030 aims to increase the country’s energy capacity to 10 GW, boost electricity exports to 10 billion kWh, reduce energy losses to 10 percent, and enhance the share of energy from other renewable sources.
