Uzbek-Turkmen cultural event held in Tashkent

A cultural event devoted to the 20th anniversary of independence of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan was held at the Republican International Cultural Center in Tashkent, UzReport.com reported .

Opening the event, the center director Nasriddin Muhammadiyev and the ambassador of Turkmenistan Soltan Pirmuhamedov said the two countries were successfully cooperating in various spheres.

During the years of independence, the two brotherly nations have achieved significant results in development. Cultural relations play an important role in strengthening cooperation between the two states, which have close values, traditions and customs.

There is a good tradition to hold friendship festivals during the visits of the heads of the states in Uzbekistan or Turkmenistan.

Currently, about 170,000 Turkmens live in Uzbekistan, where almost 50 schools teach Turkmen language. In more than 20 schools, teaching is done completely in Turkmen. There are seven Turkmen national cultural centers in Uzbekistan, and their activity is coordinated by the Republican Turkmen Cultural Center, set up in 2001.

During the event, an exhibition of Turkmen national clothes and craft samples, as well as a concert of Uzbek and Turkmen songs were held, UzA reported.
