Foreign and disease-resistant varieties of potatoes are grown in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz region, Trend reports with reference to “Zolotoy Vek” (Golden Age) newspaper.
Some farms planted Gala German variety potatoes this spring, which are considered to be universal due to its unpretentious to soil and climate conditions.
In addition, another variety that is being grown in the region can vegetate both at high temperatures and at moderate humidity.
Since potato growing is an important part of Turkmenistan's agricultural sector, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the need to increase production of fruit and vegetables at one of the last meetings of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Generally, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits are the main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan.
Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
