BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Khuzestan Province, located in the southwest of Iran, ranks first in cultivation of medicinal plants in the country, director general of Khuzestan Province's Agriculture Department Mohammad Hassani Nasab said, Trend reports.
According to him, 30 types of medicinal plants are grown in Khuzestan province. Medicinal plants are grown mainly in 8 districts of the province.
Hassani Nasab noted that the area of cultivation of medicinal plants in the province is 2 thousand hectares.
The official noted that 38,500 tons of medicinal plants were grown in Khuzestan province in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). This is 16 percent more than the year before (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
Hassani Nasab added that a program has been implemented in recent years to cultivate medicinal plants following the climatic conditions of the region.
To note, the cultivated area of medicinal plants in Iran is more than 300,000 hectares. An average of 360,000 tons of medicinal plants are exported annually in the country. 70 percent of it is consumed domestically and 30 percent is exported.
