BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28. The import of cell phones to Iran increased by 8 percent in value and decreased by 27 percent in quantity during the 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through June 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through June 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.
Approximately 2.05 million (2,049,279) cell phones worth about $528 million were imported to Iran during the three months.
Meanwhile, 1.95 million (1,950,483) cell phones were imported for commercial purposes, while 98,796 cell phones were imported by citizens during the 3 months.
However, about 14.7 million (14,688,580) cell phones worth $3.2 billion were imported to Iran during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024). Compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Iran's imports of cell phones decreased by 0.6 percent in value and increased by 0.7 percent in quantity.
To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the import of products manufactured in the country.
