Iran notes decline in mobile phone imports to country

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Iran's cell phone imports decreased by 8 percent in value and 16 percent in quantity during the first six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through September 22, 2023)

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Customs Administration shows that Iran imported 5.41 million (5,416,446) cell phones worth about $1.23 billion during the six months.

Meanwhile, about 5.25 (5,249,960) cell phones worth $1.14 billion were imported for commercial purposes, and 166,000 (166,486) cell phones worth $89.3 million were imported by citizens in six months.

Mobile phones imported for commercial purposes decreased by four percent in value and 15 percent in quantity, while cell phones imported by citizens decreased by 41 percent in value and 38 percent in quantity.

To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the import of products manufactured in the country.
