Iran's cell phone imports decline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Iran's cell phone imports decreased by 9 percent in value and 16.5 percent in quantity during the seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's customs administration shows that Iran imported 6.72 million (6,720,659) cell phones worth about $1.5 billion during the seven months.

Meanwhile, 6.52 million (6,521,446) cell phones worth $1.39 billion were imported by citizens for trade purposes, and 199,000 (199,213) cell phones worth about $106 million during the seven months.

Cell phones imported for commercial purposes decreased by 6 percent in value and 15.8 percent in quantity; cell phones imported by citizens decreased by 38 percent in value and 34.6 percent in quantity.

To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing the products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the importation of products manufactured in the country.
